Ah, yes—the controversial beret. Is there a more chic, if not challenging, hat to attempt?
Luckily, there’s never been a better time to learn how to pull off a beret the right way.

French style is once again very top of mind. Not that a beret is ever really out of fashion—or even necessarily à la Parisienne. Sure, the quintessential chapeau has been worn by every It girl.

First thing’s first – the angle is everything. I tend to pull mine over to one side so that it sits level. You don’t want the hat to look too puffy or voluminous, nor tall-standing and structural. It should be clear you’re wearing a beret and not a flat-cap, baker boy or beanie hat.

I find a beret to be a much better solution to keeping warm in winter than a traditional beanie. It has a nice structure that can turn the most basic outfit into something more special.
As far as which beret to choose for your face, a good rule of thumb is that the smaller versions tend work better for round faces while the larger styles usually suit longer, more angular shapes. As with all hats, it is always a good idea to just try on a few different styles to figure out which you prefer.
